Comparison
RAAD vs Flycut
Flycut is a free, open-source, keyboard-driven clipboard history tool for Mac. It's genuinely strong on extremely lightweight and keyboard-driven — shift-cmd-v bezel, arrow/number-key navigation, fully open source (mit) with nearly 2,700 github stars, still receiving patches, direct lineage from the well-regarded jumpcut project — simple, transparent, no telemetry.
RAAD takes a different approach: everything runs on-device, with semantic search and on-device ai you can ask about your history, which flycut has neither of, ocr with line-level bounding boxes, an mcp server with write access and an audit trail, secret redaction strips things like api keys before they’re ever written to disk. The table below is checked against both apps directly — see sources at the bottom.

Why people switch to RAAD
- Semantic search and on-device AI you can ask about your history, which Flycut has neither of
- OCR with line-level bounding boxes
- An MCP server with write access and an audit trail
- Secret redaction strips things like API keys before they’re ever written to disk
Not yet available — on the roadmap
The table above only lists what you can use today. These are built and tested but not shipped in the current release, so they’re never counted as a “yes” above.
- On-device AI actions
- Model-backed actions (summarize, rewrite, extract) exist in code but are gated off in the shipping build. Instant text transforms (case, encoding, etc.) already ship and are listed separately.
- End-to-end encrypted cloud sync
- Sync engine and schema exist and are tested, but not wired into the shipping app — no Settings tab, no way to turn it on yet.
- Team / shared memory
- The encryption layer for shared team boards exists in code but has no shipping UI yet.
- iOS / multi-device app
- RAAD is Mac-only today. Universal Clipboard lets you paste into iOS manually, but there is no RAAD iOS app.
Common questions
Flycut is free and open source — why would I switch to RAAD?
Flycut is a genuinely minimal, transparent tool, and free is hard to beat if that’s all you need. RAAD costs money because it does considerably more: semantic search, on-device AI, OCR, sealed pinboards, snippets, and an MCP server — none of which Flycut has.
Is Flycut still maintained?
It’s an unusual case: the last tagged release was in 2020, but the GitHub repo has live commits as recent as August 2026 fixing regressions on newer macOS versions. The packaged App Store build may lag behind the source.
Does Flycut have search?
The App Store listing mentions "search capabilities," but this isn’t documented in Flycut’s own help files, so we can’t confirm exactly what it supports. RAAD has confirmed keyword and semantic search across your full history.
